Before earning an opportunity to play Division I football, Jones was working at UPS while continuing to chase his football dreams.
That grind eventually led him to Livingstone College, where he continued developing as a defensive lineman and putting himself in position for the next opportunity.
Now, that opportunity has arrived.
Jones is transferring to Mississippi Valley State University, where he will continue his football career at the Division I level with the Delta Devils.
His story is about much more than football. It’s about continuing to work toward a goal even when the path isn’t traditional.
A Journey Built on Persistence
For Jones, earning a chance to play Division I football wasn’t handed to him.
He had to balance work, football and the pursuit of an opportunity.
The journey from UPS to Livingstone and now Mississippi Valley State shows what can happen when an athlete refuses to let his circumstances determine his ceiling.
His move to MVSU gives him another opportunity to prove himself on a bigger stage while continuing a football journey that started with plenty of hard work away from the field.
Another HBCU Opportunity
Jones’ story also highlights one of the unique aspects of HBCU football: opportunities can come from unexpected places.
Livingstone provided Jones with a platform to continue playing, develop his game and ultimately attract another opportunity at the Division I level.
Now, he’ll take that experience to Mississippi Valley State and look to make an impact in the Delta Devils program.
From clocking in at UPS to putting on an HBCU Division I uniform, Jones’ journey is one worth celebrating.
Sometimes the dream takes longer than expected.
Sometimes the path takes an unexpected turn.
But as David Jones’ story shows, the important thing is to keep going.
